What is Mass?

Mass Examples

Example 1.
Rahul purchased 4 kilograms of sugar and Ram purchased 3 kilograms of sugar more than Rahul. Find the quantity of sugar purchased by Ram.
Solution:
Given that,
Rahul purchased 4 kilograms of sugar and Ram purchased 3 kilograms of sugar more than Rahul.
To know how much Ram bought we have to add 4 kilograms and 3 kilograms
4 + 3 = 7 kgs
Thus the quantity of sugar purchased by Ram is 7 kilograms.

Example 2.
Ramya purchased 8 kilograms of rice on Sunday and 13 kilograms of rice on Monday. How much rice is purchased in total for two days?
Solution:
Given that,
Ramya purchased rice on Sunday = 8 kilograms
Ramya purchased rice on Monday = 13 kilograms
Total rice purchased on two days = 8 kilograms + 13 kilograms = 21 kilograms
Rice purchased on two days = 21 kilograms.

Example 3.
Sita purchased 3 kilograms 150 grams of apples and Sri purchased 4 kilograms 10 grams of apples. Find the total mass of apples purchased by sita and Sri.
Solution:
Given that,
Sita purchased apples = 3 kilograms 150 grams
Sri purchased apples = 4 kilograms 10 grams
Therefore mass of apples purchased by sita and Sri = 3 kilograms 150 grams + 4 kilograms 10 grams = 7 kilograms 160 grams.

Example 4.
Joy sold 10 kilograms of onions per one day. Find how many onions are sold for 10 days.
Solution:
Given that,
Joy sold onions per one day = 10 kilograms
For 10 days = 10 × 10 = 100 kilograms
Therefore, onions sold per ten days are 100 kilograms.

Example 5.
Lohit sold 10 grams of gold on the first day and 7 grams of gold on the second day. Find how much gold is sold in two days.
Solution:
Given that
Lohit sold gold on the first day = 10 grams
Lohit sold gold on the second day = 7 grams
Therefore, gold sold on two days = 10 grams + 7 grams = 17 grams.
